Manual Therapy Technique of the Week - Graston Technique 'Pin and Stretch' to the Distal Quad

Joe Heiler PT, CSCS

This patient underwent arthroscopic medial meniscus repair R knee approximately 8 weeks ago. He was NWB for the first 4 weeks with a tremendous amount of swelling and a great deal of stiffness when he first came in.

I feel like I maxed out his extension from treating the posterior knee the first few visits, so I figured I take a shot at the quad next. This is the 3rd treatment to this area and looking back in the notes he has gained about 10 deg. of extension and his prone knee flexion has improved from 8" heel from buttock to actually touching (as you will see in the video). It's a great spot to treat on your post-surgical patients.
