2013 Teleseminar Interview #11 - Barefoot Science Technology
Lance Todd, the President of Barefoot Science, along with Dave Lemke and Scott Grisewood discuss the technology behind the Arch Activation Foot Strengthening System™, how they're different from traditional orthotics, and the changes that can be seen in posture, strength, and performance measures. We also discuss surface EMG looking at muscle activation patterns in the gait cycle and other movement patterns, as well as how Barefoot Science can improve these measures and movements through increased proprioceptive feedback, and finally how this contributes to injury resistance and enhanced performance.

Dave Lemke NMT, sEMG Technician
began his career as a Massage Therapist in 1985. In 1993 he began using information from computer muscle analysis (sEMG) to better understand and ultimately discover the ideal order of trigger point treatment in the parascapular (shoulder) area. Between 1996 and 1998, he trained as a surface electromyography technician in order to directly observe more detailed muscle behavior. This work built the foundation for Functional NMT (fNMT) -- a systematic, whole body soft tissue manipulation method designed to reduce pain and dysfunction caused by habitual defensive muscle use. This unique approach to neuromuscular therapy integrates recent developments in motor learning science with state-of-the-art exercise physiology and manual treatment. Since 2004, this treatment has been relied on by top performing athletes, dancers and martial artists, those recovering from orthopedic surgeries, and generally stressed individuals. Dave is currently living and working in Austin, Texas. His focus is helping junior and professional athletes achieve and maintain their highest function and performance. His Sport Neuromuscular Treatment is the sports application of Functional (Fun!) NMT which he provides for anyone who needs their body to function better. Dave's work includes fNMT treatment and Kinesiological Surface EMG training and consulting.

Scott Grisewood has traveled internationally providing sports
injury treatment and training for numerous world champions, Olympic medalists and professional athletes over the past 18 years. He specializes in Fascial Release and Radial Shockwave Therapy, and his clinic (Athletes Choice) is the first in Canada to provide surface Electro-Myography (EMG). In addition to providing relief of pain and dysfunction due to repetitive stress, sports injury or workplace injuries, nutritional supplementation is another important component of his practice.
