  1. Manual Therapy Technique of the Week - Graston Technique 'Pin and Stretch' to the Distal Quad

    Joe Heiler PT, CSCS
    This patient underwent arthroscopic medial meniscus repair R knee approximately 8 weeks ago. He was NWB for the first 4 weeks with a tremendous amount of swelling and a great deal of stiffness when he first came in. I feel like I maxed out his extension from treating the posterior knee the first few visits, so I figured I take a shot at the quad next. This is the 3rd treatment to this area and looking back in the notes he has gained about 10 deg. of extension and his prone knee flexion has improved from 8" heel from buttock to actually touching (as you will see in the video). It's a great spot to treat on your post-surgical patients....keep reading

    The Importance Of Correct Weight Distribution Of Foot Pressure For Squats and Lunges

    David O'Sullivan PT
    The last 10 years, therapists and strength and conditioning coaches have become very fond of the 'vertical shin angle' and 'weight through the rearfoot' when squatting and lunging in an attempt to improve posterior chain contribution. While this has been successful for helping reduce knee pain, the majority of athletes I see in pain struggle to weight distribute through the feet effectively......keep reading

    Touring &##x27;Gray Cook Sports Medicine&##x27;

    Last summer I was lucky enough to head out to Chatham, VA and spend a day with Gray Cook. We filmed a ton of stuff - from touring the clinic, to some Q & A, and even a case study involving a patient he treated earlier in the day. Yes, I did say last summer, but we're finally getting around to all the editing and making it look presentable so it will be rolling out slowly over the next several months. Ankle syndesmosis injuries are common with athletic sports, particularly those involving contact, cutting and quick changes in direction and those in which a high boot is worn, as in ice hockey and ski sports. The prevalence of these injuries is increasing, largely due to increased awareness of these injuries and developments in clinical testing to identify such injuries. Despite this, there are no clear guidelines as to how clearly diagnose and manage such injuries....keep reading

    Y Balance Test and Ice Hockey

    Jeff Cubos BPHE MSc DC FCCSS(C) CSCS
    Although many of us are familiar with the Y Balance Test, I really haven't spoken to many individuals who actually use it.
